Arc Lounge

A Responsible Chair

Premium flat pack furniture

The Arc Lounge is a thoughtfully designed, flat-packable lounge chair made from white oak, featuring interchangeable ultra-suede upholstery and simple knock-down hardware. Inspired by the fluid forms of Gaudí’s

architecture in Barcelona, its curved backrest explores the natural flexibility of wood. Crafted with a mix of CNC milling and hand-finishing, and treated with Danish oil, the Arc is built to age gracefully over time.

Economic Research

Measurements and analysis of existing seating solutions to guide the dimensions and ergonomics of ARC.

User Testing Insights

  • Refine connection of backrest support to the arms.

  • Bring seat back forward and relax the angle.

  • Raise seat by 4 inches.

  • Protect legs and feet of the chair from chipping.

  • Upholster seat and backrest.

CAD for CNC

Prototype refinements integrated into CAD model built in Rhino 8 using surfacing tools.

CAD Objectives

  • Design for manufacturing using 3-axis CNC and associated work holding.

  • Thoughtful hardware integration.

  • Create molds for bent ply seat and backrest.

Glue Lamination

Molds were designed in CAD and cut using CNC for creating bent plywood laminations for the seat and backrest.

All Projects

What if flat pack furniture wasn't associated with low build quality and cheap materials that were meant to be thrown away instead of repaired or refurbished?

Confronting the norm, the Arc Lounge is a flat packable, premium crafted product built to stand the test of time.
